Sitting on the moon...
For us to walk hand in hand across the evening skies;
The stars will be the footprints we leave behind;
And as the east turns red, we shall be back on land, as quite as we left;
The footprints shall vanish, with a flicker of your eyelids...
Only for us to make more of them when night decends again.
Chaand ke us paar kya hai?
Na kisi ne dehka hai, na kisi ko patha hai.
Par chaand ko is baat se koi dikkat nahi;
Usko tho patha hai; Uski zindagi ki jo sooraj hai..
Woh chaand ko poori tarah se pehchaantha hai!
Not much was spoken
One word spoken, a cuckoo's song?
And there came an asnwer -
From somewhere unknown, some place unseen;
Not much was spoken; but the call answered.
Darkness was quelled; It was the first ray.
One streak of light, searching for its colours?
And there came an answer -
The bud had bloomed, its face vibrant;
Not much was spoken; but the rays found colour;
Gloom lay conquered; It was a heart's voice.
One tired mind, Weary eyes searching for sleep?
And there came an asnwer -
It brought warmth; and a touch of calm;
Not much was spoken; but I found my smile.
Note: Brickbats are welcome.
Ants!
Sounds weird? Ants?? Of all things you might think? Well I have experienced something similar. But not quite to the same scale - thanks to my relatively clean(errr.. ) den, and what with George the second hanging around, the world seems a little safer afterall. I have woken up to the tingling sensation of ants scurrying hither and thither. Espionage? Agents? And everytime I peered into them eye-to-eye, they will stop, try their hand at camouflage, sometimes quite successfully and as my eyes fall into a daze, they perk up and scurry faster. So what are they upto? A pre-emptive attack? "Oh comeon, dont be ridiculous" I cried "I dont have sugar crystals (read nuclear warheads) hidden in my shirt pocket!"
Turns out that they just use my den as their base in the far east... oops... as a resting place during the day. And they march out into the night when its cooler in search of prey. I tried to follow them out, but too bad I dont have spiderman skills to climb down walls and neither do I want my neighbours to think I am a peeping tom! So I decided to follow them when they get back in... smart eh?! I saw them skirt around my bed (wait wait wait no skirts lying around on my bed), which happens to be right next to the window, and run across the wall into a stack of storage boxes... And while they do it, some stray, lose their way, find me and perhaps look into my eyes thinking I may lead them?!
Ah well, I moved my bed away from the window now!

What happened to the trinity? Lets have a chat.
Vidhyasankar: India routed Pak today in an ODI, I heard. How was the match? Did you watch it live?
me: Good match man. Didnt watch it totally. Some IPL power I guess.
Vidhyasankar: Yeah definitely
me: Saw parts of it; was at work
Vidhyasankar: Ok
me: Did u see the line up? people cud bat till #9/10.
Vidhyasankar: Nope..
me: #9 was Praveen Kumar; #10 was Chawla. It was a loaded line up; except Ishant actually.
Vidhyasankar: What happened to the trinity?
me: Gone! Ganguly n Rahul dropped
Vidhyasankar: Sad...
me: Sachin groin injury; iIts a shame they arent playing
Vidhyasankar: oh
me: People are scared that if they get a chance, it wud be a problem again; They will play for sure.
Vidhyasankar: They'll
me: And then cause more issues to selectors; So now they just dont pick them and make it easy for themselves - damn selector idiots
Vidhyasankar: Dravid has lost confidence on himself, I believe so
me: Well its a matter of time da
Vidhyasankar: I saw his few inns in test matches... that was not the usual Dravid
me: Sachin they arent dropping only because it will cause riots across the whole country; Yeah - Rahul is out of form, but doesnt mean he cant make it back; But these guys wont give him a chance.
Vidhyasankar: Yeah; now, competition is high; 11000 people are vying for 11 slots
me: hmmm...after IPL even more
Vidhyasankar: But its gud
me: Yes ofcourse.
Vidhyasankar: Cricket is winning at the end of the day
me: As long as they treat the trinity with some respect
Vidhyasankar: Yes, they'll be respected..
me: Hopefully!
Vidhyasankar: See, none of the so called young players will be as successful as the trinity in testing conditions.
me: Absolutely
Vidhyasankar: Excluding the trinity and Laxman, jus pick up a test team now; you'll not be able to
me: We will see who stands the test of time
Vidhyasankar: Yeah...did you see one thing? even Aussies are losing strength
me: Yeah, I saw that
Vidhyasankar: I just checked the AUS v WI test scorecard; AUS hav really struggled
me: But you know what - once they play for a year or so - their young guns will be well trained and the team will be back to the fore
Vidhyasankar: Yes, thats true
me: They have the capability to adapt to change; Not sure if india can withstand the loss of the biggies; we will see
Vidhyasankar: But, the quality of cricket is lost forever
me: We were fortunate. we should say, to be among the days where the trinity and true cricket ruled
Vidhyasankar: Now cricket is also like cinema; only an entertainment factor
me: We will be the last to say we saw Saurav, Sachin, Rahul and Laxman destroy the mighty Aussies; and almost in both continents
Vidhyasankar: Yes...absolutely.We were so fortunate to see players like Sachin, Lara, Saurav, Dravid and Kallis in their prime
me: And live too - remember those India-Aus or India-pak matches at MAC?
me: and dont forget Kumble! That man can never be replaced.
Vidhyasankar: yes.. I agree
me: Our bowling department can never produce another Kumble
Vidhyasankar: Played with true spirit; Not only that never say die part - the attitude, hard work - nobody can replace him.
me: The big 5 I should say then. When we lose them - we almost have - its going to be a blow to the quality of Indian cricket
Vidhyasankar: Test cricket is nearing its end...
me: Its not always about winning. Its a lot more than that.
Vidhyasankar: ODI's anybody's game
me: Then think of 20-20... its a joke!
Vidhyasankar: But now I doubt, whether T20 people will be able to play full 50 overs in an ODI :-)
me: Trust me, I have the same feeling; Rohit sharma might be an exception
Vidhyasankar: Yeah... I was about to mention him and Raina...they are actually class players.
me: Uthappa and Yusuf pathan will lose their way, its not abt hitting all through.
me: Rohit is my only hope after Rahul. To make it successfully into the test arena and stay there.
Well, who will stay, who will succeed? Time will tell. But what happened to the trinity? I want them back!
Maybe I won us the games ;) - The 20-20 hindsight.
Go Chennai!! Go Super Kings!!
Socrates series part 2 - Feel it in you?
If thoughts can be living entities in spite of their intangible nature, well then, what about feelings? You 'feel' a certain way because a certain event has occurred which has brought about that feeling in you. Which then goes on to say that the feeling was born right there and then. The feeling lives on until some other feeling overtakes you for the time being or until a subsequent event erases that particular feeling and permanently replaces it with a fresh one. So then feelings die as well.
A subtlety here is that, unlike thoughts, the feelings when dead, don't come back alive. Let me explain. An unpleasant event occurs. It brings a negative feeling in you. You might hold anger or might feel sad. You live through it. The weather changes, good times arrive and a pleasant, positive feeling replaces that negative feeling that was in you. So years later, or even in a matter of hours, you replace anger with love. The feeling of anger is now dead and it wont come back alive unless a new negative event is to occur. This then means that the thought may persist that you were once angry. It may live on. But you wont feel the anger anymore, for now, it has turned into love. Get the point?
But what warrants considering feelings as living things? In a way, you can effectively replace the word 'feeling' with 'emotion'. And these feelings or the emotions are the ways in which we react to events. We get pregnant with the thoughts and we give birth to the emotions. Some see the day of light. Some die deep in the darkness. They don't have an absolute form and can take their own shape at will. But then so is the case with the other life forms on earth as well. Isn't it? Not all animals look the same, not all humans are the same, and for that matter, not all bacteria are the same. They adapt to their surroundings, they develop their own unique nature. So are our feelings. Not all people feel the same way about something, nor does one feel the same way about the same event occurring at different points of his/her life. So is that comparison proof enough?
What about the nature of these emotions themselves?
From a 30,000 foot level, there are those that make you feel good and those that make you feel bad. Dive a little deeper, you can see patterns or colours. You see those that are born out of an event and those born out of nowhere. Some explainable and others baffling. Some that are ephemeral and some that are everlasting. Some that flow and some that stand still.
Sometimes I compare emotions to dimensions We have X, Y and Z dimensions. We have time as a dimension. That is in the universe we live in. And in the parallel universe that our emotions live in, we can say the emotions themselves constitute the dimensions. And where you position yourself in a relationship or a situation or even when it comes to self-appraisal, it all depends on where you see yourself in this multi-dimensional universe constructed out of those emotions.
I am sure we can even trace a hereditary pattern to these emotions. Some give birth to others and the child carries with it, traits of the parent. Like for example. frustration and irritation. We get frustrated due to some event, or the non-occurrence of an event. Which then leads to irritation. And the common trait? restlessness and a sullen mood. Howver, let me quickly point out that I am yet to figure out the family chart for these emotions. Some may be cousins, and some might share a mother-daughter relationship.
Phew! I can go on and on and on. But here is the question that triggered this outburst you just read through - "Whats more powerful? Feeling the presence? or feeling the absence?"
I am yet to find an answer....
